The women's cell of ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil Science, Bhopal organised the International Women's Day programme today. A one-day training cum exposure visit was organized to sensitize and train the farm women on "Recycling and Reuse of Agro-waste for Sustainable Agriculture"
The Chief Guest, Mrs. Padmapriya Balakrishnan (IFS), Director, Van Vihar, Bhopal, emphasized the importance of investing in women farmers for the nation's prosperity. She highlighted the potential of women in conserving forests and wildlife through sustainable resource management, community education, and environmental protection advocacy. Smt. Balakrishnan also highlighted the role of farm women in nurturing biodiversity, implementing conservation strategies, and fostering a deeper connection between local communities and nature. Her address on the theme "Invest in Women Accelerate Progress" underscored the need for investment in women farmers.
Dr. Siba Prasad Datta, Director, ICAR-IISS, emphasized the importance of investing in empowering farm women through capacity building, training programs, and exposure visits for sustainable development goals, and honored progressive farm women and achievers with a memento and bouquet.

About 150 farm women, including the scientist and technical staff of the Institute, participated in the programme.
