Launching of Natural Farming Degree Programme in Meghalaya

Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Secretary, DARE & Director General, ICAR, launched a B.Sc. (Hons.) Natural Farming degree programme today in College of Agriculture, Central Agricultural University (Imphal), Meghalaya. He said that natural farming is emerging as an alternative form of agriculture that emphasises the best possible use of indigenous knowledge and practices in accordance with agro-ecological principles. Dr Pathak assured all round support and facilities in developing the College of Agriculture, Kyrdemkulai as a world class college.

A Natural Farming Block in the Administrative-cum-Academic Building of the college was also inaugurated by the chief guest Dr. Himanshu Pathak.

Dr. Anupam Mishra, Vice Chancellor, Central Agricultural University, Imphal, emphasised the introduction of natural farming in the course curriculum at undergraduate level by ICAR to reorient agriculture graduates.

Dr. S. K. Chaudhury, DDG, Natural Resource Management, ICAR, spoke about the challenges faced by the North East Region in the field of Agriculture.

Prof. Dwipendra Thakuria, Dean, College of Post Graduate Studies in Agricultural Science, Umiam, highlighted the present student’s strength of the college and the activities carried out by the university in natural farming.
