A two-day National Seminar on ‘Technological Innovations for Transforming Agriculture: The Role of Agrophysics’ was inaugurated today at ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa. The event, organized jointly by the Indian Society of Agrophysics (ISAP) and the Association for Coastal Agricultural Research (ACAR), focused on the role of science-driven innovations such as AI, machine learning, and digital agriculture in enhancing food security, agricultural efficiency, and sustainability.
The Chief Guest, Shri Rajesh Faldessai, Member of Legislative Assembly, Cumbarjua, and Chairman, Goa Rehabilitation Board, highlighted the unique challenges of agriculture in Goa and called for climate-resilient solutions.
The Guest of Honor, Dr S. K. Chaudhari, Deputy Director General (Natural Resource Management), emphasized agrophysics' potential to revolutionize agricultural practices.
The Guest of Honor, Dr A. K. Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University, stressed the importance of sustainable food production amidst climate change.
Dr Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI, highlighted the institute’s research contributions to coastal agriculture.
The seminar featured exhibitions showcasing cutting-edge technologies. The inaugural session was followed by the 11th Dr B. P. Ghildyal Memorial Lecture, delivered by Dr Singh, focusing on "Taking Science and Technologies to the Farmers." A special session on Sustainable Coastal Agriculture is planned for January 24, 2025.
A total of 100 participants, including scientists, students, and industry representatives attended the programme.
