Four months Certificate course on ‘Soil & Water Conservation and Watershed Management’ was inaugurated at ICAR- Indian Institute of Soil & Water Conservation, on 24th April, 2017.
Prof. Matthew Prasad, Vice Chancellor, University of Horticulture and Forestry, Bharsar, Uttarakhand graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his inaugural address he urged the officer trainees to best utilize the four month time effectively in learning about the different aspects of soil and water conservation and watershed management. He also asked the officer trainees to share their experiences of the respective states on soil and water conservation. He mentioned that ICAR-, is the apex organization in Soil and Water Conservation and how the trainees should be taking pride in being associated with this course.
Dr. P.K. Mishra, Director, ICAR- in his inaugural address emphasized the importance of conservation of natural resources and how this training program helps to percolate knowledge to different stake holders through the officer trainees to all parts of the country. He asked the trainees to interact as much as possible with the faculty and extract knowledge necessary to implement various practical work at field level.
Dr. Bankey Bihari, Head I/C, HRD & Social Science division briefed about five course modules comprising of Soil & Water Conservation engineering, Soil management for controlling land degradation, Conservation Agronomy & Forestry and Integrated Watershed Management. He also emphasized how the training program equally focuses on theory and practical modules of learning along with preparation of DPR, study tour etc.
