ICAR-ATARI, Kanpur organizes planning meeting of Kharif-2017 for CSISA

Two-day planning meeting of kharif was organized jointly by ICAR- Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Kanpur and Cereal Systems Initiative for South Asia (CSISA) from 12-13 May, 2017.

Dr. R. K. Malik, India Coordinator, CSISA, shared the Performance of short duration and long duration varieties under different sowing schedules across ecologies. Dr Malik discussed the role of additional irrigation during terminal heat stress period during filling stage to beat the heat stress and its effects on wheat productivity. He also highlighted the changes from T & V system to ATMA in agriculture department. There is also a shift in working of KVK from demonstration based-participatory method of extension to training led extension, he added. 

Dr. Andrew Mcdonald, Asia Team Leader, CSISA, stated that during the last 10 years, CSISA vision of Success aimed to Increase the staple Crop yields and income of million farm families in South Asia with widespread adoption of efficient and Productive agronomic practices, marked increase in the cultivation of High-yielding and Stress tolerant Cereal cultivars, better access to information, and progressive polices and Strengthened markets that stimulate the same with results-oriented Public and private investments.

Dr. U.S. Gautam, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Kanpur emphasized on assessment of TOT needs and there should be focus on hands on as well as to be balanced with training materials and training modules.

12 KVKs from Bihar, Odisha & Uttar Pradesh and the team of scientists and resource persons from CIMMYT, IRRI, CSISA and Directors of ICAR-ATARIs of Patna, Kolkota and Kanpur attended the meeting.
