Brainstorming on IPM in major crops

ICAR-National Centre for Integrated Pest Management, New Delhi organised a two-day Brainstorming on IPM in major crops (16-17 February, 2016) at New Delhi.

Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary, DARE and Director General, ICAR emphasized on the IPM development and implementation through coordinated efforts of all stakeholders of plant protection in the country, with emphasis on crop health management considering soil, plant, animal and man interactions. He also stressed on further innovations and improvements in IPM with necessary policy support.

Dr. Jeet Singh Sandhu, Deputy Director General (Crop Science) stressed on need for harmonizing IPM packages to suit the changing Agro Ecological Zones.

A book, “Dynamics of Crop Protection and Climate Change” authored by Dr. C. Chattopadhyay and Dr. D. Prasad was released on the occasion.

Senior Officials from ICAR Headquarters; Directors, Heads of Divisions & Scientists from several Crop and Horticultural Sciences Institutes of ICAR and 83 Crop Protection Researchers attended the brainstorming meet.

Recommendations:

  • Harmonization of IPM packages of different crops in integration with other crop based ICAR institutes, State Agricultural Universities, Department of Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmers Welfare and State Departments of Agriculture.
  • Nation-wide e-pest surveillance.
  • Integration of honeybees & other pollinators as important component in IPM technological packages.
