The National Research Centre on Yak at Dirang in the State of Arunachal Pradesh has a yak farm at Nyukmadung, 2750 m above msl. At present 171 yaks of different categories are being maintained. On 27th March, 2011 Secretary(DARE) and DG, ICAR alongwith other dignitaries from the ICAR headquarters and Institutes visited the Yak Farm and took stock of the various activities of yak management and pasture development being undertaken at the farm. In the presence of Secretary(DARE) and DG, ICAR two (invitro fertilized) embryos were successfully implanted in recipient female yaks.
An Interactive Meet with the trainees of the on-going NABARD sponsored training programme was organized at the farm. Secretary(DARE) and DG, ICAR listened to the various issues concerning yak rearing from the representative among the trainees (yak rearers) and assured them to take up these issues with the development authorities at various forums/meetings.
