Central Institute for Research on Goats (CIRG), Makhdoom, Mathura celebrated Farm Innovator’s Day on 27th April, 2013. The programme was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Dr. A.K. Misra, Vice Chancellor, Maharashtra Animal & Fishery Sciences University (MAFSU), Nagpur. Dr. Rakesh Babu Gangwar, Deputy Director, Agriculture, Government of Uttar Pradesh and Shri Deepak Patidar, Progressive Goat Farmer, Indore (MP) graced the occasion as Guests of Honour.
Dr. Misra highlighted the role of animal husbandry to reduce poverty in our country and stressed that grass root level innovation will address the issues of sustainable goat production and bring success in commercial goat rearing.
Dr. S.K. Agarwal, Director, CIRG presided over the function and welcomed the Chief Guest and participants. He emphasized that exchange of ideas between scientists and farmers and other stakeholders will be the best way to march ahead to establish successful commercial venture in our country.
Progressive farmers shared their experiences and new ideas for successful commercial goat venture. New Innovations/ ideas were presented by some of the goat farmers. The Director felicitated five progressive goat farmers for their contribution to popularise goat farming and showing a path to others for establishing goat farm in their respective areas.
An exhibition of different activities, achievements and technologies of institute was also organized.
Nearly 170 farmers, entrepreneurs, NGOs and women farmers from Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Gujrat and Haryana and projects managers of BAIF posted at Odisha, Jharkhand, Udaipur, Pune and Gujarat participated in the programme.
