ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Meghalaya organized an exposure visit programme for Bhutan Farmers on 11th, 16th and 20th June, 2014. A team of 29 farmers visited the institute to get first-hand experience on sustainable farming practices and appropriate technologies evolved by the institute suitable for hilly agro-ecosystem of Bhutan. The farmers were exposed to model demonstration units on Integrated Farming System (IFS), Soil & Water Conservation measures, horticultural demonstration farm and ATIC of ICAR Research Complex.
With a warm welcome to the farmers from Bhutan, Dr. S.V. Ngachan, Director, ICAR-RC for NEH Region, Meghalaya said the technology diffusion through farmers’ exposure visit programme is a method of ‘seeing is believing’ which hasten the technology dissemination process. He expressed his happiness over the keen interest of farmers of Bhutan for improved technologies of the institute.
This programme was organized as a part of technology exposure programme under the project ‘Market Access and Growth Intensification Project (MAGIP)’ jointly sponsored by IFAD and Ministry of Agriculture and Forests, Royal Government of Bhutan and coordinated by North Eastern Region Community Resource Management Project for Upland Areas (NERCORMP), (a joint project of North Eastern Council, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, Government of India and IFAD).
Similarly on another occasion, total 48 B.Sc. (Agriculture)-final year students of Sylhet Agricultural University, Bangladesh also visited ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Meghalaya as a part of their study tour programme during 11th-18th May, 2014. The students were exposed to different laboratories, experimental plots, demonstrations sites of the institute followed by an interaction with Director and scientists of the institute.
Both the programmes were coordinated by Dr. A.K. Tripathi, Head and Dr. A.K. Mohanty, Principal Scientist, Division of Social Science, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Meghalaya.
