Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Balyan, Union Minister of State for Agriculture along with Members of Parliament, Kunwar Bharatendu Singh (Bijnore), Shri Satyapal Singh (Baghpat), Shri Satish Gautam (Aligarh) visited the ICAR-Indian Institute of Farming Systems Research, Modipuram on 24 March 2015. In his address Dr. Balyan, stressed upon developing climate resilient farming systems based models to minimize the risk of crop failures due to weather vagaries and advised to link agriculture to market for livelihood security of the farming community.
Dr J. P. Singh, Director, ICAR-IIFSR accompanied the team and apprised various activities of the Institute. Minister, MPs and farmers were highly impressed with the performance of different components of Integrated Farming Systems (IFS) like cropping systems, dairy, mushroom, fishery, vermi-compost and fruits. The team also appreciated the basic, strategic and farmer-oriented research activities carried out by the institute.
The Minister had detailed discussions on net income and production cost of various enterprises with scientists and emphasized upon replicating the models in small and marginal farmers.
More than 300 farmers from neighbouring districts participated in the programme.
