Training-cum-Citrus planting material distribution programme

ICAR-Central Citrus Research Institute, Nagpur organised a one-day capacity-building programme in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kalyan (Affiliated to Rama Krishna Mission), Purulia, West Bengal today in order to uplift the horticulture sector in Chotanagpur plateau region of India.

The Chief Guest, Swami Vashkarananda, Secretary, Kalyan, appreciated the efforts taken by the ICAR-CCRI in strengthening and promoting citrus cultivation practices in different non-traditional areas.

Dr. Dilip Ghosh, Director, ICAR-CCRI, urged the tribal farmers to adopt the technologies developed by the Institute to enhance yield, quality of citrus and their income. He also said ICAR-CCRI and KVK Purulia also released one technology leaflet on an Improved Package of Practices of Acid lime and Sweet orange for the Red Lateritic Zone of West Bengal (in English and Bengali script).

ICAR-CCRI has also established two mother blocks of Sweet orange (var. Mosambi and Cutter Valencia) and Acid lime (var. Acid lime NRCC-7) in the KVK farm, Purulia to make the Chotanagpur plateau region self-sufficient in disease-free planting material production in the future. Also, initiated two frontline demonstrations of Acid lime and Sweet orange at farmers' fields in the Huda block of Purulia District.

A total of 50 tribal farmers and State Government officials participated in this event.
