The Union Minister of Tribal Affairs and Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shri. Arjun Munda visited ICAR- Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bengaluru today.
While interacting with the farmers, scientists and other officials, Shri Munda emphasized on the horticulture sector's potential for further growth. He stated that India could enhance its presence not only in the domestic market but also in global markets. The Minister reiterated the importance of aligning production standards with international norms to ensure competitiveness.
In reference to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s urge to boost pulses production, Shri Munda pointed towards various initiatives taken by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah in the field of Agriculture. He added that the horticulture's evolution into an organized industry is playing a vital role in the agricultural product export market worth Rs. 4 lakh Crore.
The Minister appealed to the scientists to align their activities with the vision of "Atmanirbhar Bharat"
Prof. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director, ICAR-IIHR, spoke about the institute's commendable work on 54 horticultural crops. He further said that the research advancements aims to benefit farmers nationwide, including those in tribal-dominated areas and the North-Eastern States.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed with organizations like Karnataka Exotic Fruit Farmer’s Association and Deccan Exotics India Producer Company Limited.
Smart farming kits and off-season production kits for dragon fruit cultivation were distributed to beneficiaries from Karnataka Exotic Fruit Farmer’s Association and Deccan Exotics India Producer Company Limited, contributing to the advancement of agricultural practices.
