ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute will emerge as an important focal point in the agricultural development of the North-East Region - Shri Munda

Shri. Arjun Munda, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare & Tribal Affairs virtually inaugurated the Administrative-cum-academic Building, Manas Guest House, Subansiri Girls Hostel, and Brahmaputra Boys Hostel today.
The Union Minister stressed the development of climate-resilient crop varieties. Shri Munda stated that the Central Government has addressed the gaps in agriculture development in North-Eastern states, and the Prime Minister has added a new dimension to the region's development. He further emphasised the crucial role of agriculture in achieving a developed nation by 2047. The Union Minister stated that agricultural institutions are enhancing the sector through multi-dimensional initiatives, with ICAR-IARI expected to become a crucial focus for the proper agricultural development of the North Eastern States. He stressed agriculture education has to be linked to livelihood and employment opportunities.
Shri. Kailash Choudhary, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare urged scientists to exploit the natural diversity that exists in North East Region. He also emphasized the development of technologies close to nature and while doing so let us link up with organic and natural farming. Shri Choudhary stated that agricultural research has to be linked with entrepreneurship. He also visited the exhibition stall at ICAR-IARI, Dirpai Chapori, Gogamukh, Assam.
Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Secretary (DARE) and Director General (ICAR) virtually addressed the gathering and elaborated on the objectives and mandates of IARI, Assam. He emphasized that North-East India has huge potential and needs to be explored through research and development.
Dr. A. K. Singh, Director, ICAR-IARI, delivered welcome address marking the day as an auspicious day,
Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Minister, Education, Welfare of Plain Tribes and Backward Classes, Govt. of Assam acknowledged the efforts of IARI, Assam. He stressed that research work to be done by IARI, Assam would help consider plant, animal, and fish diversity, apart from conserving the environment.
Shri. Pradan Baruah, Member of Parliament, Lakhimpur hoped that the Institute will rise to the expectations of young minds of the entire northeast India.
Shri. Ankur Bharali, District Commissioner, Dhemaji, Dr. D. K. Yadava, Assitant Director General (Seeds) was also present on this occasion.
