Workshop on Land Resource Inventory in Tripura

A Workshop on the Land Resource Inventory of Tripura State at Large Scale for Agricultural Land Use Planning using Geospatial Techniques was held at ICAR-National Bureau of Soil Survey & Land Use Planning, Nagpur, today.

Dr. N. G. Patil, Director, ICAR-NBSS&LUP, highlighted the importance of LRI at a large scale for managing soil resources and securing the country's food security. Land use options and technologies developed based on land parcel-specific soil information will not only help optimum agricultural productivity but also conserve precious natural resources soil and water.

Dr. F. H. Rahman, Head, ICAR-NBSS&LUP, Regional Centre, Kolkata spoke about the overview of the project including the current agricultural scenario of the state, methodology, expected outputs, and outcomes.

Shri. Saradindu Das, Director, Department of Agriculture, Govt. of Tripura, expressed concern about making Tripura self-sufficient in rice production through the LRI project. He urged to implement and monitor the developed gram panchayat level land use plan as a case study to demonstrate to the farmers and extension officers.

The possibility of using rubber leaves for vermicomposting, and biochar preparation, and using them in agricultural lands for soil health management was also discussed during the workshop.

Senior Officials of the Department of Agriculture, Govt. of Tripura, Heads of the Divisions along with all scientists of ICAR-NBSS&LUP, Nagpur and Scientists from Regional Centre Jorhat attended the workshop.
