On-Farm Training-cum-Field Day Programme organized

The ICAR-Indian Institute of Natural Resins and Gums, Ranchi, Jharkhand organized the On-Farm Training-cum-Field Day on “Calliandra calothyrsus - A good host in Lac Integrated Agroforestry System” at Mungadhi, Angara Block, Ranchi District, Jharkhand today. The event was organized under the ICAR-ICRAF (World Agroforestry) Project.

The Chief Guest, Dr. Nirmal Kumar, Director, ICAR-IINRG, Ranchi, Jharkhand emphasized on the adoption of new technological interventions for livelihood security. He also applauded the efforts made by the adopted farmers for their interest in lac integrated farming system.

Shri Ramanand Bedia, Local Representative, Tati Panchayat highlighted the issues related to marketing of agricultural products including vegetables, fruits and lac.

The experts highlighted about the Calliandra calothyrsus - A multipurpose busy host, the importance of raising and management of lac host plantations, importance of nutrient management for  lac host plants, importance of scientific lac cultivation on Calliandra calothyrsus, kusum, palas and Semialata, lac associated fauna and pest management in Kusmi and Rangeeni lac crop, etc.

The farmers were distributed with the Folders of Lac Cultivation on C. calothyrsusF. semialataKusumBer and Palas during the occasion.

The main objective of the event was to improve the farmer’s technical knowledge and making wider publicity of the models (Semialata+ Vegetables + Papaya + Calliandra + Ber) demonstrated at the farmers’ field amongst the neighboring villages for motivation and adoption of the successful models with the philosophy of “seeing is believing”.

Around 150 farmers from 10 different villages participated in the programme.
