The ICAR-Indian Institute of Vegetable Research, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh organized the Webinar on “Genome Editing in Vegetable Crops for Improvement of Quality and Stress Tolerance” today.
Delivering the inaugural address, the Chief Guest, Dr. Anand Kumar Singh, Deputy Director General (Horticultural Science), ICAR stressed on the Genome Editing Application for the sustainable agriculture, better nutrition, health benefits and environmental sustainability.
Dr. T.K. Behera, Director, ICAR-IIVR, Varanasi underlined the main objective of the Webinar. Dr. Behera urged the public and private sectors to come forward for the Genome Editing in Agriculture with the goal of developing and sharing best practices, guidelines & strategies for research, development, & deployment of the Genome edited agricultural products.
The adoption of the Genome Editing Technology necessitates the Public-Private Cooperation. Adopting consistent, science-based guidelines for the regulation of goods resulting from Gene editing across the area will help the breeders in the Private and Public Sectors to develop and deploy the advanced and creative breeding applications.
The participants from the ICAR Institutes, State Agricultural Universities, DBT-Institutes, CSIR-Institutes and Private Firms registered their participation in the Webinar organized as a part of the “Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav” to commemorate 75 Years of India’s Independence.
