Mahila Kisan Diwas organized by ICAR-NAARM

ICAR- National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, Hyderabad organised ‘Mahila Kisan Diwas’ at Agraharam Pottapally Village, Mahabubnangar district, Telangana today.

Dr. T. Supraja, Professor (Foods & Nutrition), PJTSAU, Hyderabad spoke about the importance of proper nutrition to stay healthy. She also mentioned that, malnutrition is a serious issue in rural areas and anaemia continues to be rampant among rural women due to dietary deficiencies. Dr. Supraja emphasised that creating awareness about food and nutrition among the farm women are very essential for maintaining the food and nutrition security of the farm family. She also said vegetable and fruit based nutri-gardens are the richest source of nutrition and can play an active role in eradicating undernutrition.

Dr.  Bharath Sontakki, Principal Scientist and Head, ICAR-NAARM highlighted the crucial role of women in in sustaining rural households and communities, improving rural livelihoods and overall wellbeing. He stated that women farmers and women Self Help Groups (SHGs) play an important role in agriculture development with their significant contribution to boost the rural economy. He also urged the farm women to grab the entrepreneurial opportunities in agriculture and allied sectors. Dr. Sontakki also highlighted that provision of value addition of agri produce at village level provides encouraging opportunities for women farmers to uplift the rural income.

Dr Ramesh Naik, Scientist, ICAR-NAARM emphasized that the inspirational success stories of women farmers should be replicated in all the rural villages to encourage the women farmers.

Dr. P. Supriya, Scientist, ICAR- NAARM briefed about the genesis and significance of Mahila Kisan Diwas.

Around 100 participants including women farmers, women agricultural labourers and other rural women attended the programme.
