National workshop on Jute- Production, Marketing, and Utilization Strategies

ICAR-National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology, Kolkata organised a National workshop on Jute- Production, Marketing, and Utilization Strategies jointly with the Directorate of Jute Development, Kolkata here today.

The Chief Guest, Dr. S.K. Biswas, Former Director, DJD, urged the participants to implement new technologies in jute production & processing at the farm level.

Dr. B.S. Mahapatra, Former Vice-Chancellor, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya spoke about the synergy between different R&D organizations working on jute for the betterment of the progress in the sector.

Dr. D.B. Shakyawar, Director, ICAR-NINFET, briefed about the new technologies that emerged out of the R&D efforts of the institute.

Dr. L.K. Nayak, Head, ToT Division and Coordinator of the workshop, highlighted the programme schedule.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between ICAR-NINFET, Kolkata, and M/s Parna Creations, Karnataka for licensing of technology on areca nut fibre-based leather products. Different technical sessions were convened during the workshop.

More than 100 participants representing jute growing states, the Jute Corporation of India, the Directorate of Jute Development, the National Jute Board, and State Agricultural Universities, participated in the workshop.
