An awareness and input injection program aimed at improving the livelihoods of small and marginal farmers in the North East Region was organized today by ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, Assam, in collaboration with ICAR-Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan, Almora, Uttarakhand (NEH Component). The event took place at the Dhakuakhana District Library in North Lakhimpur, Assam, under the guidance and leadership of Dr Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-IARI.
The Chief Guest, Shri Ghanshyam Dutta, highlighted the role of enhancing the livelihood of farmers in Assam and outlined various agricultural schemes.
The Guest of Honor, Shri Bhobojit Doley, discussed the importance of integrated farming systems and natural farming practices.
A total of 600 farmers benefited from the farmer-scientist interaction programme followed by the distribution of agricultural inputs including fish fingerling, vermicompost, organic manure, insecticides, fungicides, spade, prong, urea, and zinc sulfate.
Various informational leaflets on scientific farming practices were also disseminated. Several representatives among the farmers also shared their experience and knowledge motivating their peers and youth to consider taking up agriculture as a profitable venture.
