ICAR-IISWC, Dehradun celebrates its 69th Foundation Day

The ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil & Water Conservation, Dehradun, Uttarakhand celebrated its 69th Foundation Day here today.

The Chief Guest, Shri Ganesh Joshi, Agriculture Minister, Government of Uttarakhand stressed on the need for conserving and protecting water that is the prime competitive natural resource to avert major catastrophes.

Dr. Suresh Kumar Chaudhari, Deputy Director General (Natural Resource Management), ICAR regarded the state-specific soil-water problems and relevant technologies to tackle them as the urgent needs for the development of states and regions.

The Guest of Honor, Dr. A.K. Karnatak, Vice-Chancellor, Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Uttarakhand University of Horticulture & Forestry, Bharsar, Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand applauded the Institute’s Scientists and Staff Members for bringing out the time-tested technologies for soil conservation, water harvesting, watershed management and enhanced agricultural production.

Dr. M. Madhu, Director, ICAR-IISWC, Dehradun underlined the Institute’s progress specifying the reports of 60 Years of research and development made in the soil and water conservation besides, the ecosystem services assessment protocol & methodologies, Decision Support Systems (DSS) and water harvesting potential, soil loss tolerance limits, etc.

Dr. P.R. Ojasvi, Head (H&E Division), ICAR-IISWC, Dehradun highlighted the changing paradigm in the research of soil and water conservation with reference to the ongoing climate change, rain water harvesting and the farming scenarios.

Earlier, delivering the welcome address, Dr. N.K. Sharma, Head (SS&A Division), ICAR-IISWC, Dehradun briefed about the history and the periodic progress of the Institute on research and training.

The event registered participation by 250 Scientists and Staff Members of the Institute and the Invited Guests from the various organizations, NGOs and Academia besides, 70 Virtual participants.
