Interface of Rajasthan KVKs on Livestock Infertility

Interface of KVKs of Zone-VI was held at Agricultural Research Station, Durgapura, Jaipur on 09th August 2012. Dr BS Prakash, ADG (AN&P), ICAR, New Delhi was the Chief Guest.  Shri O.P. Meena, Additional Chief Secretary, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Jaipur, Dr AK Gehlot, Vice Chancellor, Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Bikaner,  and Dr OP Gill, Vice-Chancellor, Maharana Pratap Univ. of Agriculture & Technology, Udaipur were the special guest. Dr Prakash in his inaugural address pointed out that the state of Rajasthan has precious livestock germplasm in the form of very good different livestock breeds and the buffalo population has increased very significantly during last ten years. Therefore, it is very essential to reduce the incidence of infertility in livestock in order to have high milk production from animals. Dr Prakash called upon all Rajasthan KVKs to work on recently developed livestock technology (NDRI) transfer at grass-root level in order to benefit the marginal and smallholder livestock owners.  The chief guest released a publication on Science & Art of Feed Formulation prepared under RKVY, Project by the University officials.   

Shri OP Meena in his address pointed out that Rajasthan is susceptible to drought conditions after every three years. Therefore, we must know the major challenges in the state and then workout the future programmes related to livestock fertility improvement. Dr AK Gehlot, Vice Chancellor, RAJUVAS, Bikaner, in his presidential address expressed satisfaction over lead role being played by the KVKs and the linkage between the KVKs and the line departments for meeting the technical needs of the farmers at district level. He emphasized the role of KVKs in livestock technology assessment, refinement, demonstration and also empowering the small and marginal farmers in Rajasthan.

Dr YV Singh, Zonal Project Director, Zone-VI, Jodhpur in his introductory remarks briefed about the livestock growth and salient achievements of Rajasthan KVKs under Zone-VI, which is highly affected with arid and semi-arid climatic conditions. He further assured that the livestock technology developed by NDRI will be transferred at grass-root level in order to reduce the infertility problem in Rajasthan state which would improve the economic status of the livestock owners.

Dr. CK Murdia, Director Extension Education, Bikaner welcomed all the participants; while Directors of Extension from Rajasthan (Bikaner, Udaipur), Scientists from ZPD, Zone-VI, Professors from Veterinary Science College, Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Bikaner, Directorate of Extension, Officials from Department of Animal Husbandry, officials from RCDF and SMS (Animal Science or Veterinary Science)/ Programme Coordinators of 42 KVKs of Rajasthan participated in the workshop.
