In his inaugural address at the “Women Science Congress - 2020”, Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) emphasized on promoting the women power in the various fields of science. The Congress is a part of the “107th Indian Science Congress - 2020” being organized at the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore from 3rd to 7th January, 2020.
Dr. Mohapatra emphasized on the tough balance between the family and profession which the women folks maintain. While mentioning about the indulgence of women folks in agricultural sciences in the states of Kerala and Tamil, he urged to promote more number of women folks to select the agricultural science as their career option.
The Director General also lauded the Southern States of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu for producing the higher numbers of women scientists. Dr. Mohapatra underlined about the establishment of the ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar that was started in the 1990s and is especially dedicated to the contributions made by the women groups in the fields of agricultural sciences. He also urged the policy makers in India and South Asia for eradicating the problems of malnutrition among the women groups that is leading to the stunting, wasting and other health issues.
The various ICAR Institutes namely ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bengaluru; ICAR-National Bureau of Agricultural Insect Resources, Bengaluru; ICAR-National Research Centre on Banana, Tamil Nadu; ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute, Regional Station, Karnal; ICAR-National Institute of Animal Nutrition and Physiology, Bengaluru; ICAR-National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, New Delhi and ICAR-National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning, Regional Station, Nagpur are also participating in the “Pride of India Exhibition - 2020” being organized as a part of the “107th Indian Science Congress - 2020”.
