Celebration of Jai Kisan Jai Vigyan Week

ICAR- Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Mumbai Various activities were organized to commemorate the occasion at its headquarters (Mumbai) and four centres (Kolkata, Rohtak, Kakinada and Powarkheda). Interactions between farmers, Fisheries Officers, students and scientists were organized. At Kolkata centre, on-field interaction with farmers and field demonstration programmes on feed-based freshwater prawn & carp polyculture were conducted at farmers’ ponds in far off locations such as Bali Island, Sunderbans.  At Rohtak centre, farmers were appraised with latest technological advancements in inland saline aquafarming during the scientists’-farmers’ interaction. At Kakinada, in addition to addressing the farmers’ problems, they were exposed to ongoing aquafarm activities at the Centre. Farmers were also exposed to concepts of community based aquaculture, cage culture in reservoirs and tank based aquaculture. Powarkheda centre also organized farmers’ meet where 20 farmers from Bihar, who were undergoing training at the centre also participated, during which, scientists demonstrated and delivered lectures on modern farming techniques, management of carp and prawn hatchery. Quiz and Debate competitions were organized for the students at Mumbai. There was active participation from the students. Prizes were distributed to the winners and runners up by Dr. Gopal Krishna, Director and Vice Chancellor, CIFE, Mumbai, who stressed on tapping the potential of aspects of social and moral science for betterment of the society in general and farmers’ community in particular.

ICAR- Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture, Rehmankhera    

During this period, five activities were organised in order to empower farmers namely i) innovative farmers meet, ii) deliberation on   success stories of farmers  and honouring of selected progressive farmers. iii) showcasing of protected cultivation practices during National Workshop and Seminar vi) organizing farmers visit at technology park of the Institute, and v) organizing  Kisan Sanghosti .

Dr. S. R. Singh, Ex Vice Chancellor, Rajendra Agriculture University, Samastipur, Bihar was Chief Guest.  He honoured the progressive farmers on the occasion of birth anniversary of late Prime Minister Shree Chaudhary Charan Singh Jee. Nineteen innovators from different parts of the country (Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telengana and Uttar Pradesh) participated in the programme

Dr S. Rajan. Director, focused on the production of healthy and disease free planting material in fruits and vegetables. He also coined the concept of “Krishi Gyan ATM” as a farmers library to be established in the panchayat bhawan of villages, adopted under the Mera Gaoan Mera Gavrav programme. The showcasing of CISH technologies was also organised during the gosthi. Sh Ram Kishore, a progressive farmer of the village, proposed the vote of thank. A total of 350 famers  participated in the Jai Kisan Jai Vigyan week organised by the institute.
