Shri Gyanendra Dev Tripathi, IAS, Additional Secretary, DARE and Secretary, ICAR, visited ICAR-NNational Bureau of Agricultural Insect Resources, Bengaluru key facilities today including the National Insect Museum and the Live Insect Repository Unit (LIRU). To commemorate the occasion, he planted a tree on the campus. An exhibition showcasing various technologies developed by ICAR-National Bureau of Agricultural Insect Resources, Bengaluru was also organized.
Dr T. Venkatesan, Director (A), ICAR-NBAIR, briefed Shri Tripathi on the institute’s activities and research achievements, including the success story of the classical biological control of the invasive cassava mealybug, licensed technologies, IPRs, cutting-edge research in areas such as gene editing and RNAi-based technologies for insect pest management, and the institute’s future thrust areas.
Shri Tripathi expressed his appreciation for the Bureau’s performance and commended its efforts in developing biocontrol and other non-pesticidal technologies and services for the benefit of farmers.
The Secretary was accompanied during the visit by Dr A. Sahoo, Director, ICAR–NIANP, Bengaluru; Dr M. Prabhakar, Director, ICAR–ATARI, Bengaluru; and Dr. Praveen Malik, CEO, AgriInnovate India Ltd, New Delhi.
