Cotton Field Day at Rohtak, Haryana

Cotton team of ICAR-National Research Centre for Integrated Pest Management, New Delhi organized “Cotton field day” at Bhainichanderpal village of Rohtak district of Haryana today.

Dr. Subhash Chander, Director, ICAR-NCIPM & chief guest of the programme, stressed on management of losses caused by biotic stresses using IPM. He also explained various aspects of IPM and exhorted farmers for reducing pesticide use and adopting timely IPM interventions for effective management of pests, thereby reducing pest control expenditure and enhancing crop productivity and farmers’ income.  

Dr. Ajanta Birah, Principal Scientist and the team leader-cotton, informed the Cotton farmers regarding ill-effects of uncontrolled pesticide usage on human health and environment and she also explained that by adopting IPM, farmers can reduce input cost and prevent environmental pollution along with obtaining optimum yield.   

Mr. Licon Kumar Acharya, PI of the project, briefed about the project i.e., selection of village, pest scenario of cotton and the IPM strategies implemented to manage pest problems.

Two farmers namely, Shri Sumer Singh and Shri Rajesh Kumar provided their feedback on Cotton – IPM programme being implemented in the village.

Various queries raised by the farmers were properly addressed by the ICAR-NCIPM team.

A visit to cotton IPM fields with scientists and IPM farmers was also conducted.

More than 100 farmers participated in the programme.
