Dr M.L. Highlighting the sector’s substantial contribution of nearly ₹17.5 lakh crore to the national economy, Dr Jat noted that dairying remains a key pillar, significantly supporting village livelihoods and contributing to human nutrition and health. He underscored that achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat will require a shift towards diversified and integrated farming systems that combine crop and livestock enterprises for sustainable development.
Stressing the importance of quality over quantity, Dr Jat called for a paradigm shift in production practices. He advocated the adoption of advanced reproductive technologies, including embryo transfer, to enhance productivity and genetic potential. He also emphasized the need to modernize veterinary healthcare infrastructure, urging that veterinary hospitals be upgraded to standards comparable with human healthcare systems.

Citing the achievements of progressive farmers, including record milk yields reaching up to 91 kg per day, he highlighted the immense potential of the livestock sector when supported by innovation and best practices.
Promoting a unified vision, Dr Jat called for a “One Country, One Goal” approach, encouraging stronger collaboration among farmers, scientists, and institutions. He commended the progressive outlook and adaptability of Punjab’s farming community.
Addressing emerging challenges, particularly climate change, he stressed the urgency of developing and adopting climate-resilient technologies and fostering entrepreneurship-driven livestock farming models.

Reaffirming institutional support, Dr Jat assured that ICAR will continue to strengthen universities and research systems to accelerate advancements and ensure sustained growth in the livestock sector.
