In a significant step towards strengthening advanced agricultural research, postgraduate education, and insect biosafety, at the Division of Entomology, ICAR–Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, a suite of newly upgraded research and education facilities were inaugurated today. The initiative reinforces ICAR-IARI's commitment to developing world-class infrastructure for cutting-edge research, innovation, and human resource development in agricultural sciences.
The facilities were inaugurated by Dr Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-IARI, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The event was attended by Dr Anupama Singh, Dean & Joint Director (Education); Dr C. Viswanathan, Joint Director (Research); Dr P. S. Brahmanand, Project Director, Water Technology Centre; along with Heads of various divisions, distinguished scientists, experts, faculty members, course directors, research scholars, and participants.

The newly inaugurated facilities include a modern Entomology Library, an upgraded Postgraduate (PG) Laboratory, and an Insect Biosafety Level (IBSL) Facility. These facilities are designed to support advanced teaching, practical training, insect diagnostics, and safe handling of agriculturally important insect species, thereby significantly enhancing the Division's research and educational capabilities.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ch. Srinivasa Rao emphasized that strengthening scientific infrastructure is fundamental to developing innovative technologies for sustainable agriculture and preparing the next generation of agricultural scientists. He appreciated the Division of Entomology for creating modern facilities that will significantly contribute to research, education, and national capacity building in the field of agricultural entomology.
Dr Rao highlighted that the Insect Biosafety Level Facility will enable systematic and safe research on economically important insect pests, supporting studies in insect biology, host-pest interactions, quarantine research, and advanced pest management strategies. The upgraded PG Laboratory has been equipped to provide postgraduate students and research scholars with hands-on experience in modern entomological techniques, strengthening practical learning and research excellence.

The renovated Entomology Library will serve as a comprehensive knowledge resource, providing access to literature and reference materials covering insect taxonomy, systematics, insect physiology, molecular diagnostics, integrated pest management, and allied disciplines. The upgraded facility is expected to promote academic excellence and support high-quality research by students, scientists, and faculty members.
The inauguration of these facilities reflects ICAR-IARI's continued vision of promoting excellence in research, education, innovation, and technology development, ensuring that the Institute remains at the forefront of agricultural science and contributes effectively to India's food and nutritional security through advanced scientific research.
