Madagascar Civil Servants Visit ICAR-IARI

Thirty civil servants from Madagascar visited the ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi as part of their comprehensive capacity development program organized by National Center for Good Governance. This visit was strategically organized to strengthen bilateral cooperation between India and Madagascar while showcasing India's premier agricultural research capabilities to the officials of Madagascar.

Dr. ML Jat, Secretary (DARE) and Director General (ICAR), and Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director & Vice Chancellor, ICAR-IARI, extended a warm welcome to the Malagasy delegation.

Dr. Jat highlighted the enduring and mutually beneficial partnership between India and African nations, with particular emphasis on Madagascar's unique position in this collaboration. He acknowledged the common challenges both nations face, particularly in hill agriculture systems, climate change adaptation strategies, and sustainable economic development pathways. Dr Jat further outlined how Madagascar could derive substantial benefits from India's agricultural innovations and ICAR's pioneering research developments through comprehensive capacity building initiatives, including specialized knowledge transfer programs specifically designed for academic faculty and students. These educational exchanges would facilitate the dissemination of cutting-edge agricultural techniques and strengthen Madagascar's institutional capabilities. He emphasized that India has become a hub for scaling appropriate mechanization.

Dr. Rao provided the visitors with a comprehensive overview of Indian Agriculture Research Institute and its pivotal role in India's remarkable transformation from a food-importing nation to a major food grain exporting center. He emphasized ICAR-IARI's commitment as part of the ICAR network to enhance global food security through pioneering research initiatives, comprehensive educational programs, and extensive extension services that reach farmers across diverse agricultural landscapes.

As part of their comprehensive visit, the delegation toured several key facilities that showcase IARI's technological advancement and research capabilities. The delegates appreciated the hydroponic and vertical farming system of CPCT, and were amazed to see the high tech research facility at Nanajee Deshmukh National Plant Phenomics Facility.
