ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Goats celebrated its 39th Foundation Day on 12th July, 2018. Shri Gajendra Singh Sekhavat, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare graced the occasion as Chief Guest. In his address Shri Sekhavat, briefed about various Government Schemes for farmers’ welfare specially, the irrigation water projects which will cover about 20 Lakhs hectare of agricultural land and pulse production schemes launched by Agricultural Ministry which have resulted into surplus production. He emphasized on adopting livestock rearing as an important component for not only doubling the farmers’ income, but also for providing sustainability and economic cushion and resilience in case of draught affecting the agriculture productivity. He urged to adopt the cooperative system by forming Farmers’ cooperatives as well as Agricultural Producer Company which are being encouraged and supported by the Government through various schemes, including exemption from taxes. He emphatically stated about loan facilities for livestock and dairying on the line of Kisan Credit Card, insurance facilities and many other such schemes being run by the Central Government, and exhorted up on the scientists and officials to responsibly take all these schemes to all the farmers.
On the occasion, Shri Sekhavat planted a tree sapling in the CIRG premises, inaugurated the Kisan Mela and Exhibitions, and also released Dr K. P. Pant Committee Room in the Laboratory Complex Building, A new Kids’ Shed at Jamunapari Unit, Annual Report 2017-18 and other publications of CIRG, and transferred three herbal drug technologies developed by the Institute to a pharmaceutical company for commercialization. The Minister also honoured eleven progressive goat farmers/ entrepreneurs for taking up scientific goat farming and popularizing among others and distributed elite breeding bucks to five poor goat farmers on the occasion.
Also present on the occasion were Shri Puran Prakash, MLA (Baldev, Mathura), Shri Karinda Singh, MLA (Gowardhan, Mathura), Shri Rajendra, Director Deen Dayal Dham, Nagla Chandrabhan, Farah, Mathura, Shri Mahipal Singh, District President, Bhartiya Kisan Morcha Sangh , Dr AK Tomar, Director, ICAR-CSWRI, Avikanagar, Dr Pramod Rai, Director, ICAR-DMR, Bharatpur and other dignitaries from various institutions.
Dr Manmohan Singh Chauhan, Director, CIRG briefed about the achievements and activities of the Institute.
More than thousand farmers from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand including more than 50% of female farmers participated in the event.
