The ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture celebrated its 32nd Annual Day with full zeal and enthusiasm at its Kausalyaganga campus on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar today.
The Chief Guest, Prof. Suddhasatwa Basu, Director, CSIR-Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology, Bhubaneswar, conferred the ICAR-CIFA annual awards.
Dr. C. Gopal, Member Secretary, Coastal Aquaculture Authority, Chennai marked his presence as the Special guest along with Shri Sanjib Chandra Hota, IAS (Retd.), Former State Election Commissioner and Member Board of Revenue, Odisha, Bhubaneswar as the Chief Speaker on the occasion.
CIFA Achievements
- Successfully produced 10th generation of selectively bred giant freshwater prawn.
- Developed Lime Requirement kit for neutralization of exchangeable acidity of pond bottom soil.
- Recently developed, space and cost effective Pabda hatchery unit - to be used for future culture of Pabda.
- Whole Genome Sequencing and Development of Allied Genomics Resources in Two Commercially Important Fish - L. rohita and C. Batrachus.
- Information Portal and Android mobile app on freshwater aquaculture technologies has been developed in three languages (English, Hindi & Odiya).
- As a nodal Institute, appointed by Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare, Government of India, coordinated Krishi Kalyan Abhiyaan at Gajapati.
Dr. Bindu R. Pillai, Director, ICAR-CIFA highlighted the institute’s role in developing the livelihood, women empowerment, entrepreneurship development, training and skill development in aquaculture, etc. Dr. Pillai briefed about the several flagship schemes of Government of India viz., Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav; Farmer First Project; Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, Soil Health Card, Tribal Sub Plan, Scheduled Caste Sub Plan, Krishi Kalyan Abhiyaan, NEH, etc., that are being operated successfully by the institute. Dr. Pillai also underlined about conduct of technology assessment and refinement programmes by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Khordha under the administrative control of the institute that are benefiting over 1,700 farmers and farm women.
Three Publications were also released by the dignitaries.
The Representatives of ICAR-CIWA; ICAR-CHES Bhubaneswar; NFDB & ICAR-CIFA’s retired employees also registered their participation in the function.
The retired employees were also felicitated on the occasion.
