“There is a need of Integrated Farming System (IFS) and Farmers’ Producers’ Organizations (FPOs) for bringing in a radical change in the agrarian community of the country, especially for the Cold Arid Region”, said Shri Kailash Choudhary, Union Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare. Shri Choudhary was addressing the “Kisan Mela and an Interactive Meet with Farming Commune of Trans-Himalayan Mountain Region of Ladakh” organized by the ICAR-Central Arid Zone Research Institute, Regional Research Station, Leh, Union Territory today. The Minister stressed on strengthening the linkages between the research and farming communities.
The Special Guest, Shri Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, Member of Parliament, Union Territory of Ladakh outlined the schemes and programmes of the nation targeting exclusively the holistic development of Ladakh Region and its people.
Dr. S. Bhaskar, ADG ICAR also marked his presence as the Special Guest during the occasion.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. O.P. Yadav, Director, ICAR-Central Arid Zone Research Institute, Jodhpur, Rajasthan highlighted the importance of the cold arid ecosystem, role of improved farming technologies and long-term implications on sustainable developmental progress of the cold region.
The farmers from the valleys of the Union Territory of Ladakh namely - Leh, Nubra, Changthang and Kargil also participated in the programme.
