TheAgricultural Engineering Division of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) plays a pivotal role in promoting mechanization, precision, and sustainability in Indian agriculture through the application of engineering science and technology. It focuses on improving agricultural productivity, ensuring post-harvest efficiency, and supporting resource-use optimization across diverse agro-ecological regions. The Division coordinates research, education, and extension programs in the field of agricultural engineering through a network of national institutes, research centers, and All India Coordinated Research Projects (AICRPs).

 

Mandate

  • To plan, coordinate, and monitor R&D programmes while serving as a national knowledge hub in this field.

  • To transform Indian agriculture into a sustainable, profitable and competitive enterprise by implementing engineering interventions as farm mechanization, value addition and energy management throughout production and post-harvest operations.

b. Mission

To develop and introduce region-specific engineering technologies that cater to the specific needs of different farming systems to achieve sustainable and enhanced productivity, as well as profitability in agriculture.
