Training programme for citrus farmers of Shajapur district of Madhya Pradesh Organised

A 3-day training programme was organized by ICAR-Central Citrus Research Institute, Nagpur during 15-17th July, 2025 for citrus growers of Shajapur district, Madhya Pradesh. A total of 27 citrus growers participated in the programme. The training programme was organised under the APEDA sponsored project "Capacity Development Programme on Adoption of Good Agriculture Practices (GAP) for Citrus Farmers”.

The Chief Guest, Prof. C. D. Mayee, Former Chairman, Agriculture Scientist Recruitmnet Board, New Delhi urged the trainees to form clusters to reap maximum benefits of government schemes. 

Guest of Honour, Dr. Mukesh Singh, Scientist, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Shajapur encouraged the farmers to learn about all aspects of scientific citriculture during the 3 day course.

Dr. Dilip Ghosh, Director, ICAR-CCRI, Nagpur presented the introductory remarks and highlighted the institute’s technology of production of disease free planting materials which has been acknowledged by farming community countrywide. Dr. Ghosh urged the farmers to adopt scientific package of practices for citrus cultivation and avoid inter-cropping in citrus orchards for ensuring proper physiological stress in citrus trees to induce timely flowering.

In the technical sessions, scientists from ICAR-CCRI guided farmers on various important aspects of citrus cultivation. A training manual and “Pocket Diary of Citrus Diseases and Insect Pests” were distributed to farmers. The program included visit to ICAR-CCRI nurseries, experimental plots and insect pest identification. An exposure visit of the trainee farmers was also conducted to the orchard of commercial and progressive citrus growers.
