Awareness Programme on NABL Accreditation: Advancing Quality and Recognition in Soil Testing

On the eve of World Soil Day 2025, a one-day awareness programme on ‘NABL Accreditation: Advancing Quality and Recognition in Soil Testing’ was jointly organized in hybrid mode today by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) and ICAR–Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Kolkata.

Dr. Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata, delivered the keynote address on Guidelines and Quality Control of Soil Testing Laboratories. He underscored the critical importance of robust quality assurance systems encompassing policies, procedures, documentation, and control mechanisms in achieving consistent and reliable testing aligned with international standards. He emphasized the need to prioritize quality over quantity, detailed the standard operating procedures followed in soil testing laboratories, and explained the scientific management of analytical uncertainty and internal quality determinants.

Ms. Malancha Das, Deputy Director, NABL, Kolkata, highlighted NABL’s mandate and elaborated on the significance and procedures of Recognition/Accreditation of Soil Testing Laboratories. She provided a comprehensive overview of the globally accepted ISO/IEC 17025 standard and its essential requirements for testing laboratories.

A total of 18 potential soil testing Labs with capacity for accreditation of various KVKs of West Bengal participated in the programme.
