Dr. Kajal Chakraborty, Director, ICAR–National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, Lucknow has been awarded the prestigious Rashtriya Krishi Vigyan Puraskar 2025 in the category of Innovation and Technology in Agriculture and Allied Sciences. The honour was conferred by Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, during the 97th Foundation Day celebration of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research held in New Delhi today.
Dr. Chakraborty was recognized for his groundbreaking research conducted at ICAR–Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, Kochi. His pioneering work in marine natural products, bioactive compounds, and functional nutraceuticals has significantly advanced marine biotechnology and value-added fisheries in India.

His development of eco-friendly bioactives, antimicrobial agents, and nutraceutical formulations has enhanced the sustainability and profitability of marine fisheries while opening avenues for translational research and commercial applications. Widely acclaimed for its scientific excellence and societal relevance, his research has had both national and international impact.
As Director of ICAR-NBFGR, Dr. Chakraborty continues to lead efforts in the conservation and sustainable use of India’s aquatic genetic resources. His recognition with this national award is a testament to his sustained contributions, scientific leadership, and commitment to agricultural innovation.
