WBCADC Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bankura, in collaboration with ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Kolkata, celebrated Mahila Kisan Diwas today in hybrid mode with great enthusiasm to honour and recognize the invaluable contribution of women in Indian agriculture. The event reaffirmed a collective commitment to enhancing women’s participation in agricultural decision-making, innovation adoption, and agri-entrepreneurship, truly reflecting the theme “Empowered Women, Empowered Agriculture.”

Dr. Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata, highlighted that women constitute nearly half of India’s agricultural workforce. He commended the role of KVKs in empowering women farmers through skill development, technological interventions, and livelihood enhancement. He emphasized that, under ICAR’s guidance, women are successfully transforming challenges into opportunities leading Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), adopting climate-smart practices, managing nutritional gardens, and excelling as agri-entrepreneurs.
Representatives from various KVKs shared their experiences and discussed the impact of KVK initiatives in improving the livelihoods of women farmers. The programme included interactive sessions, success stories of progressive Mahila Kisans, and demonstrations on value addition, kitchen gardening, and other income-generating activities suitable for smallholders. Participants expressed gratitude for the continued technical and moral support provided by KVKs.

A total of 70 women farmers representing seven Self Help Groups (SHGs) from the Sonamukhi Block of Bankura took part in the event, showcasing the growing leadership and collective strength of rural women in driving agricultural transformation. The active participation of KVK staff ensured meaningful discussions and engagement throughout the programme.
Women participants appreciated the technical insights shared during the sessions, reaffirming their resolve to strengthen their role in sustainable agriculture and contribute to a future shaped by knowledge, innovation, and resilience.
