His Excellency, the Hon’ble Vice President of India, Shri C. N. Radhakrishnan, visited the SJMM Orchidarium in Gangtok, Sikkim, today and expressed profound admiration for its scenic beauty and the state’s extraordinary orchid biodiversity.
During the visit, Dr S. P. Das, Director, ICAR-National Research Centre for Orchids, briefed the Hon’ble Vice President on orchid biodiversity and present scenario of orchids in India; orchid conservation, research and development efforts.

While walking through the Orchid Experience Centre’s display of rare and exotic orchids, the Vice President appreciated the Orchidarium’s role in preserving unique species and promoting public awareness about biodiversity conservation.
The Hon’ble Vice President was accompanied by the Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang, his wife Madam Smt. Krishna Kumari Rai, Chief Secretary of Sikkim, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Sikkim UDD, Shri Jitendra Singh Raje, entire team of GMC associated with mangement of SJMM OEC, led by Shri Gary Chopel, Commissioner, GMC.

Earlier, the same day, Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Minister DoNER also visited the Orchidarium and applauded the efforts made in showcasing the magnificent orchid diversity at the Orchid Experience Centre.
