As part of its ongoing mass awareness initiatives under the Swachhta mission, the ICAR–Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Kolkata organised a cleanliness awareness programme today, reinforcing its commitment to hygiene, environmental sustainability, and social responsibility.
Addressing the participants, the Dr. Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata, highlighted that Swachhta is not a one-time activity but a sustained way of life, particularly within rural and agricultural ecosystems where hygiene has a direct bearing on human health, soil quality, and farm productivity. He encouraged the participants to serve as ambassadors of cleanliness in their respective districts and to translate awareness into consistent action at the grassroots level. The address also underscored the emphasis of the Government of India and ICAR on the One Health approach, with Swachhata serving as a critical link between human, animal, and environmental health.

The session focused on sensitising participants to the importance of cleanliness, hygiene, and sustainable practices in community and agricultural contexts. Interactive discussions and practical demonstrations highlighted the collective responsibility of stakeholders in fostering a clean and healthy environment.
The initiative reflects ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata’s proactive efforts to integrate scientific awareness with social responsibility, ensuring that field-level stakeholders are effectively equipped to contribute to the objectives of the Swachhta mission.
The programme engaged 24 members of the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) endline survey teams representing Hooghly, Paschim Medinipur, and Murshidabad districts, along with one faculty member from ICRISAT.
