The Vadodara Research Station of the ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore actively participated in the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference (Central Gujarat) held at GSFC University, Vadodara, on June 29–30, 2026. The conference brought together policymakers, scientists, academicians, entrepreneurs, and other key stakeholders to deliberate on strategies for promoting sustainable development, innovation, and investment in Gujarat’s inland fisheries and allied sectors.
A major highlight of the event was the seminar on “Transforming Gujarat into an Inland Fisheries Powerhouse,” chaired by the Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Panchayati Raj, Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh, who attended as the Chief Guest. The seminar was also graced by Shri Arun Kumar Solanki, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Agriculture, Farmers Welfare & Cooperation Department, Government of Gujarat, and Shri Vijay Kharadi, IAS, Commissioner of Fisheries, Government of Gujarat.
During the technical sessions, the experts delivered an invited lecture titled “Building Blue Infrastructure Backbone: Unlocking Growth in Gujarat’s Inland Fisheries.” The presentation highlighted the importance of strengthening inland fisheries infrastructure, adopting scientific management practices, and promoting technology-driven interventions to accelerate sustainable fisheries development in the state.

The experts also showcased ICAR-CIFRI’s commercially validated technologies supporting the Blue Revolution. The pavilion drew considerable attention from dignitaries, government officials, entrepreneurs, fish farmers, students, and members of the public, who interacted with the scientists and gained insights into innovative technologies aimed at enhancing fish production, improving livelihoods, and ensuring the sustainable utilization of inland water resources.
In a message conveyed on the occasion, Dr. Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, reaffirmed the Institute’s commitment to sustainable inland fisheries development and stated: “Gujarat possesses immense potential to emerge as a leader in inland fisheries through scientific innovation, sustainable resource management, and technology-driven interventions. ICAR-CIFRI remains committed to supporting the state’s fisheries sector by developing and disseminating need-based technologies, strengthening capacity-building initiatives, and fostering collaborations that enhance fish production, improve livelihoods, and contribute to the vision of a resilient and self-reliant Blue Economy.”
The conference concluded with a grand valedictory session attended by the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Bhupendra Patel, and Union Defence Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh, and the reaffirming the state’s commitment to strengthening inland fisheries through scientific innovation, infrastructure development, and collaborative partnerships.
ICAR-CIFRI’s participation underscored its pivotal role in advancing research-driven solutions and technology dissemination for the sustainable growth of India’s inland fisheries sector, while reinforcing Gujarat’s vision of emerging as a leading hub for inland fisheries development.
