ICAR-CIRCOT, Mumbai Organises Extensive Farmer Outreach under Khet Bachao Abhiyan across Kolhapur Region

As part of the nationwide Khet Bachao Abhiyan launched by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, the ICAR–Central Institute for Research on Cotton Technology, Mumbai, organized an extensive farmer outreach and awareness campaign across Kolhapur district from June 22 to 26, 2026, promoting sustainable soil health management and climate-resilient agricultural practices.

The five-day campaign covered more than 80 villages across Panhala, Hatkanangale, Karveer, Kagal, Shahuwadi, Shirol, and Walwa-Islampur blocks, reaching over 1,200 farmers. Awareness meetings were conducted at Gram Panchayat offices, cooperative societies, farmers' fields, and community venues to disseminate scientific knowledge on soil conservation, balanced fertilizer use, biofertilizers, integrated nutrient management, and natural farming practices aimed at enhancing farm productivity and profitability.

A major outreach programme was organized on June 25 at Yavluj village in Panhala block in collaboration with Dalmia Sugar Pvt. Ltd., attracting more than 700 farmers from 20 surrounding villages. The programme highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts among farmers, industry, and research institutions in promoting sustainable agricultural development and improving soil health.

Scientists from ICAR-CIRCOT conducted practical demonstrations on the preparation of Jeevamrit for natural farming and the scientific collection of soil samples for soil health assessment. The interactive sessions enabled farmers to discuss challenges associated with adopting natural farming practices and receive scientific guidance on sustainable nutrient management and resource conservation.

The campaign also received active support from several agri-startups and technology partners, facilitating the dissemination of innovative technologies and sustainable farming solutions to the farming community.

Through this large-scale outreach initiative, ICAR-CIRCOT reinforced its commitment to advancing soil health, encouraging the adoption of eco-friendly farming practices, and empowering farmers with science-based technologies under the Khet Bachao Abhiyan, contributing to resilient and sustainable agricultural systems.
