19 May 2026, Telangana

ICAR-Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture, Hyderabad organised an advocacy programme on balanced fertilization at Chowderpally village in Yacharam Mandal of Rangareddy district, Telangana, under the Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav (MGMG) programme.

The programme focused on promoting sustainable nutrient management practices among farmers. Scientists emphasised the importance of soil test-based balanced fertilization and cautioned against the excessive use of urea due to its adverse effects on soil health, crop productivity, and cultivation costs.

The participants were sensitised to the role of biofertilizers in reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers and maintaining long-term soil fertility. Demonstrations on seed treatment using biofertilizers were conducted, and farmers were encouraged to incorporate organic and green manures as part of integrated nutrient management practices for sustainable agriculture.

During the programme, awareness was also created on proper soil sampling techniques, rainwater harvesting, and efficient utilisation of available water resources through micro-irrigation systems. Farmers were further educated on the importance of cleanliness and sanitation in preventing diseases and promoting community health.

Scientists demonstrated the correct procedure for soil sample collection from different fields for laboratory analysis. Informative literature on soil sampling techniques was distributed among the participants to facilitate improved field-level nutrient management practices.

Sri Raju Keshamoni, Sarpanch of Chowderpally village, urged farmers to adopt the recommendations provided by ICAR-CRIDA scientists to prevent soil degradation and enhance agricultural productivity and farm income.

Around 116 farmers from Chowderpally and Yacharam villages actively participated in the programme.
