ICAR–Indian Institute of Oilseeds Research, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, under the aegis of the ICAR, celebrated its Golden Jubilee (50th) Foundation Day on 1 August 2026. The event was held under the chairmanship of Dr R.K. Mathur, Director, ICAR-IIOR, marking five decades of excellence in oilseeds research and innovation.
Dr Raman Meenakshi Sundaram, Director, ICAR–National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, Hyderabad, attended the programme as the Special Guest, while Dr S.K. Jha, Assistant Director General (Oilseeds & Pulses), ICAR, New Delhi, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.
The celebration was attended by several former Directors of ICAR-IIOR, Directors of national oilseed research institutes, and a distinguished gathering of oilseed scientists from various All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) centres and research institutes across the country.

In his address, Dr S.K. Jha, lauded the remarkable research accomplishments of ICAR-IIOR and conveyed his best wishes for the institute's continued success as the nodal institution for oilseeds research in the country.
Addressing the gathering, Dr R.K. Mathur highlighted the institute's significant milestones, achievements and contributions over the past five decades. He showcased the varieties and hybrids developed and released by ICAR-IIOR, along with several innovative technologies, including biopolymer-based multilayer seed coating and artificial intelligence (AI)-based advisory systems, underscoring the institute's commitment to advancing sustainable oilseed production through cutting-edge research.
The Foundation Day Lecture was delivered by Dr K. Suresh, Director, ICAR–Indian Institute of Oil Palm Research, Pedavegi, Andhra Pradesh, on the topic "Assessment of Suitability of Crops using GIS-Based Multi-Criteria Overlay Analysis." He highlighted the application of Geographic Information System (GIS)-based technologies for identifying suitable areas to promote and expand oilseed cultivation, emphasizing the role of advanced spatial tools in agricultural planning and decision-making.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Raman Meenakshi Sundaram congratulated ICAR-IIOR on completing 50 years of excellence and appreciated its remarkable journey in emerging as one of the country's premier institutions dedicated to oilseeds research and development.
As a part of the Foundation Day celebrations two research publications were released followed by honouring the meritorious scientific, technical and administrative staff of the institute. Around 20 farmers were felicitated for their commendable efforts to adopt and promote oilseeds like castor, safflower and sunflower and seeds of latest hybrids and varieties were distributed. Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were exchanged towards promoting seed production, incubation and value addition
activities.
A national panel discussion on "Advances in Genetics and Genomics for Sustainable Oilseed Crop Improvement" was also organised.
