ICAR–Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Dehradun inaugurated a four-week Skill Development Training Programme on "Soil and Water Conservation for Watershed Management" for students. The training programme will be conducted from 1 July to 28 July 2026 with the objective of enhancing students' technical knowledge and practical skills in soil and water conservation, watershed management, and sustainable natural resource management.
The participants represent leading agricultural engineering institutions from across the country, including the College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana; College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar; Dr N.G. Ranga College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, Bapatla, Andhra Pradesh; and Mahamaya College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, Akbarpur, Uttar Pradesh.

The inaugural session highlighted the growing importance of scientific watershed management in addressing challenges related to soil erosion, water scarcity, climate resilience, and sustainable agricultural development. The comprehensive training schedule includes classroom lectures, laboratory demonstrations, field visits, and hands-on practical sessions designed to provide students with exposure to modern soil and water conservation technologies and watershed planning approaches.
Faculty members from participating institutions also joined the inaugural programme online and congratulated the selected students. They encouraged the participants to make the best use of the opportunity by actively engaging in both the academic and practical components of the training programme.
The four-week programme has been designed to provide participants with in-depth exposure to the principles and practices of soil and water conservation, watershed planning and management, hydrological processes, rainwater harvesting, erosion control measures, water resource development, geospatial applications, and emerging technologies for sustainable natural resource management.
A total of 32 B.Tech students have enrolled in the programme.
