ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nadia (Additional), organized an awareness programme on sustainable farming practices under the national campaign ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan 2026’ at Taibichara village of Nakashipara Block, Nadia district, in collaboration with ATMA and State Line Departments.
Shri Debojit Bose, Additional District Magistrate, Nadia, graced the occasion as Chief Guest.
The programme aimed to enhance farmers’ awareness of scientific and sustainable agricultural practices for improving crop productivity, maintaining soil health, increasing nutrient-use efficiency, and enhancing farm income.
Addressing the gathering, the Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Nadia Additional, emphasized the importance of balanced fertilizer use in major kharif crops, including paddy, jute, blackgram, and vegetables. He highlighted the role of integrated nutrient management and encouraged the adoption of organic and natural farming practices.
Special attention was given to crop rotation with legumes, green manuring, use of organic manures and azolla in rice cultivation, application of liquid fertilizers, and split application of nitrogen to enhance soil health and crop productivity.

The programme also promoted sustainable paddy cultivation through the adoption of improved high-yielding varieties. Farmers were advised on scientific crop establishment techniques, water conservation, integrated weed management, and crop diversification through rice-based cropping systems.
During the farmer scientist interaction session, participants shared field-level challenges related to crop production. Experts provided practical guidance on optimizing input use, effective pest and disease management, adoption of modern agricultural technologies, and sustainable farming practices. Farmers were also sensitized to the efficient utilization of various government schemes and support programmes.
The event was attended by Shri Jaydeep Mukhopadhyay, Deputy Director of Agriculture (Administration), Nadia; Dr. Ratan Mukherjee, Project Director, ATMA, Nadia, Shri Ajmir Mondal, Assistant Director of Agriculture, Nakashipara Block, Nadia, along with officials from agriculture and allied departments.
A total of 120 farmers and farmwomen actively participated in the programme. The programme concluded with the distribution of agricultural inputs including rice seed (MTU 1156), Azolla, and fodder cuttings under Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan (SCSP) programme.
