ICAR-National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, Hyderabad, in collaboration with IFFCO, organized a Workshop cum Field Day on “Balanced Use of Fertilizers and Science-Based Nutrition” under the Khet Bachao Abhiyan campaign today at Yellammajula Village, Chinnakodur Mandal, Siddipet District, Telangana. The programme aimed to create awareness among farmers on balanced fertilizer use, soil health management, nano fertilizers, and science-based nutrient management practices for enhancing agricultural productivity, while ensuring environmental sustainability. The programme brought together scientists, agricultural officers, IFFCO officials, progressive farmers, and local farming communities to discuss innovative approaches to nutrient management and sustainable agriculture.
The programme emphasized the importance of balanced fertilizer use (BUF) and science-based nutrient management, highlighting the role of farmyard manure (FYM), compost, and other organic amendments in maintaining soil health and sustaining crop production.
Participants were sensitized on the need to prevent crop residue burning, and the use of the IFFCO–IARI Pusa Bio-decomposer was demonstrated as an eco-friendly residue management alternative. The benefits of bio-fertilizers, nano zinc, and other alternative nutrient sources for improving soil fertility and crop productivity were also discussed.

Speakers highlighted the contribution of the Green Revolution to food grain production while noting that excessive chemical fertilizer use has led to soil degradation and declining productivity. The need for balanced fertilizer use, crop diversification, and stronger collaboration among stakeholders for sustainable agriculture was emphasized.
Method demonstrations showcased the practical application of balanced fertilizer use, science-based nutrient management, nano-fertilizer technologies, and soil test-based fertilizer application. The demonstrations underscored the importance of soil testing and site-specific nutrient management for sustainable crop production and improved soil health.
Progressive farmers shared their field experiences and highlighted the benefits of IFFCO products and science-based nutrient management practices in enhancing crop performance and farm profitability. The successful collaboration between ICAR-NAARM and IFFCO in promoting these practices was also highlighted.
Representatives of Choudaram and Yellammajula villages appreciated the initiative and encouraged farmers to adopt balanced fertilizer use and science-based nutrient management practices, while participants were also urged to follow scientific recommendations and utilize government support schemes to improve agricultural productivity.

Dr. Gopal Lal, Joint Director, ICAR-NAARM, emphasized the role of ICAR institutes and partner organizations in serving farmers and contributing towards Viksit Bharat. He highlighted the link between soil health and human health, the importance of safe food production, organic farming, integrated farming systems (IFS), integrated nutrient management, bio-fertilizer application, and enhancement of soil organic carbon for improving farmer livelihoods and strengthening the agricultural economy.
The programme concluded with the distribution of medicinal plant saplings to participating farmers, followed by vote of thanks by Shri Chandrababu, District Manager, IFFCO, expressing gratitude to all dignitaries, scientists, officials, and farmers for their active participation and support. In total, 120 farmers and other delegates participated in the programme.
