ICAR-National Institute of Veterinary Epidemiology and Disease Informatics, Bengaluru, in collaboration with the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL), Bengaluru, successfully organized a one-day awareness programme on NABL accreditation today. The programme was conducted for scientists from ICAR institutes and Subject Matter Specialists (SMS) from Krishi Vigyan Kendras of the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Bengaluru.
Dr. Baldev R. Gulati, Director, ICAR-NIVEDI, shared valuable insights from NIVEDI’s journey towards NABL accreditation and highlighted how quality accreditation subsequently facilitated recognition of the institute’s laboratory by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH). He underscored the importance of accredited laboratories in strengthening national disease surveillance, diagnostics, and global credibility.

Senior officials emphasized the critical role of NABL accreditation in ensuring quality, reliability, and international acceptance of laboratory testing and calibration services.
Mr. Krishnaraj, Manager, NABL, provided an overview of the Quality Council of India (QCI) and NABL framework in the country. This was followed by detailed technical presentations by Mr. Abhishek, Assistant Manager, NABL, and Mr. Santosh, Coordinator, NABL, who explained the accreditation process, requirements, and implementation strategies. Dr. (Mrs.) Soudamini Mohapatra, NABL Assessor, delivered an in-depth session on NABL documentation formats, assessment procedures, fee structure, and other operational aspects.
The programme witnessed active participation, with engaging discussions and a comprehensive question-and-answer session that addressed practical challenges faced by laboratories aspiring for accreditation. A total of 24 participants attended the programme.
