Shri Narendra Singh Tomar launches Integration of “ICAR-IIHR Seed Portal with YONO Krishi Web Application of State Bank of India”

Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare launched the integration of ICAR-IIHR Seed Portal with the YONO Krishi Web Application of State Bank of India here at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi today.

Emphasizing on the horticulture production’s contribution of more than 32% of the agriculture production, the Union Minister urged for enhancing it further. He stressed on the important role that the technologies for digitizing agriculture have in boosting the production and productivity, availability of quality inputs  and enhancing the farmers’ income. Shri Tomar also emphasized on carrying out the digitization in all the sectors of agriculture to realize the vision of the Hon'ble Prime Minister for faster and easy access of agricultural inputs, bringing transparency in dealings, avoiding corruption and doubling the farmer’s income.

Applauding the State Bank of India’s role in implementing the Government of India’s various schemes namely - Jan Dhan Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Yojana, etc., the Union Minister highlighted its role in providing monetary benefits to the farmers during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Shri Tomar accentuated that the integration of the ICAR-IIHR Seed Portal with the SBI YONO Krishi Web Application will help the farmers immensely in increasing the crop production along with the crop quality and income generation.

In his address, Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) highlighted the ICAR’s due emphasis to the Government of India’s Digital India initiative. Underlining about the ICAR-IIHR’s various technologies that are benefitting the farmers immensely, the Director General regarded the integration of SBI YONO Krishi Digital Platform with the ICAR-IIHR Seed Portal as a prompt[t effort in the designated direction as it would help the farmers in getting the quality seeds directly at their residence itself at cheaper rate.

The Guest of Honor, Shri Rajnish Kumar, Chairman, State Bank of India stressed that digitization has a major role to play in doubling the farmer’s income. He emphasized the contribution of the SBI YONO Krishi’s for supporting the farmers through the various SBI Financial Schemes. Shri Kumar outlined the SBI YONO Krishi’s features along with its functionality and benefits.

In his welcome address, Dr. M.R. Dinesh, Director, ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru apprised the dignitaries about the production of the quality seeds of several high yielding and disease-free varieties of different horticultural crops developed by the Institute with a production outlay of 20 tonnes seeds per year. He also outlined the development of the rootstock technology in vegetable crops like tomato and chilli in combating the effects of biotic and abiotic stresses and several value-added products through the intervention of postharvest technology.

Dr. Anand Kumar Singh, Deputy Director General (Horticultural Science), ICAR proposed the vote of thanks.

The senior officials of ICAR Institutes, Vice-Chancellors of State Agricultural Universities, horti-entrepreneurs and farmers also virtually participated in the programme.
