The ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bengaluru, Karnataka virtually organized the “8th Group Discussion of the ICAR-All India Coordinated Research Project on Fruits” from 3rd to 6th March, 2021.
In his address, the Chief Guest, Dr. Anand Kumar Singh, Deputy Director General (Horticultural Science), ICAR accentuated on identifying the trait specific genotypes for commercial cultivation in traditional and non-traditional areas. Dr. Singh stressed on the need to narrow-down the gaps between planting materials availability and demand with the deployment of appropriate technologies that should benefit the consumers.
The Guest of Honor, Dr. Vikramaditya Pandey, ADG (Horticultural Science - I), ICAR stressed on giving weightage to the annual targets and achievements while performance scoring the Centres of ICAR-AICRP on Fruits.
In his inaugural address, Dr. B.K. Pandey, ADG (Horticultural Science - II), ICAR urged for adopting the QR Code System for the planting material supply to ease their traceability. He also emphasized to test new pesticides that are environmentally safe as few of the molecules are being restricted. Dr. Pandey also appreciated that two of the ICAR-AICRP on Fruits’ technologies being included by third party of ICAR Schemes have 97% impact in farmer’s field.
Dr. M.R. Dinesh, Director, ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru suggested that the ICAR-AICRP on Fruits should take-up diversity fairs to tap the wide genetic resources. He stressed to give more emphasis on rootstock development for marginal soils and pollinators in mango. Dr. Dinesh also emphasized on promoting entrepreneurship for the ICAR-AICRP technologies through incubation.
The various publications of ICAR-AICRP were released during the occasion.
More than 170 delegates from 50 participating Centres across the country participated in the deliberations.
