A State Stakeholders’ Meeting on the "Action Plan for Nagaland: Viksit Bharat Goal" was organized today at the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Jharnapani, to formulate a comprehensive roadmap for achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat-2047, with agriculture identified as the primary driver of the State’s future development.
The meeting brought together senior government officials, scientists, researchers, and representatives from various stakeholder organizations to deliberate on strategies for strengthening the agricultural sector through science-led planning, innovation, and institutional collaboration.
Smt Salhoutuonuo Kruse, Minister for Water Resources and Horticulture, Government of Nagaland, reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to farmer-centric agricultural transformation. She emphasized key priority areas, including enhancing agricultural productivity, conserving natural resources, promoting agri-entrepreneurship, and accelerating the adoption of modern agricultural technologies to ensure sustainable growth.
Dr B. P. Bhatt, Vice-Chancellor of the Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali, Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali (VCSG) Uttarakhand University of Horticulture and Forestry (UUHF) in Bharsar, Pauri Garhwal, stressed the need to capitalize on Nagaland’s rich indigenous crops and natural resources. He also emphasized the importance of assessing the medicinal potential of the region’s unique traditional foods to unlock new opportunities for research, value addition, and economic development.

Dr Zasekuolie Chusi, Agriculture Production Commissioner, Government of Nagaland, called for stronger coordination among government departments, research institutions, and development agencies to effectively translate the proposed action plan into measurable outcomes. He underscored the need to improve farmers’ income, strengthen food and nutritional security, and promote sustainable agricultural growth across the State.
The meeting was attended by the Director, ICAR-NRC on Mithun; Director of Agriculture, Government of Nagaland; Director of Horticulture, Government of Nagaland; Director of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Government of Nagaland; Joint Director of Agriculture, Government of Nagaland; Joint Director of Horticulture, Government of Nagaland; Dean, College of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry (CoVSc&AH), Jalukie; Heads of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs); Heads of various Departments, SAS-NU; scientists; State officials; Chief Technical Officers (CTOs); Subject Matter Specialists (SMSs); and technical officers, who actively participated in the deliberations.
The meeting concluded with a collective resolve to develop a science-driven roadmap for strengthening agriculture, improving farmers’ livelihoods, and contributing towards the realization of the Viksit Bharat-2047 vision in Nagaland.
