As part of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 Campaign, an awareness programme was organised at the ICAR-Central Tuber Crops Research Institute, Thiruvananthapuram, today, focusing on the prescribed Jan Bhagidari Advocacy Drives under the campaign. The programme covered 4-Way Waste Segregation under the SWM Rules, 2026 – “Ab Do Nahi Chaar”, Home Composting, Say No to Plastics, and Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (RRR) Drives, in accordance with the campaign’s date-wise action plan.
The programme was organised in collaboration with Suchitwa Mission, Kerala, with a focus on promoting responsible waste management, waste reduction, reuse and recycling, with special emphasis on reducing the use of plastics.
Participants were sensitised to practical measures including home composting, prevention of littering in public places, avoidance of single-use plastics, use of cloth bags, adoption of reusable steel or glass bottles for water and beverages, collection of used clothes and household items for reuse or recycling, and responsible disposal of waste.
Following the awareness session, experts from Suchitwa Mission, Kerala, conducted a practical demonstration on 4-way waste segregation under the SWM Rules, 2026 – “Ab Do Nahi Chaar”. The demonstration explained the appropriate segregation and handling of different categories of waste, highlighting the importance of segregation at source for effective waste management.
Dr G. Byju, Director, ICAR-CTCRI, delivered the presidential address and emphasised the importance of collective participation and responsible waste management practices for maintaining clean and sustainable surroundings.
Around 150 participants, including staff members, students, research scholars, project and temporary staff, sanitation staff and volunteers, actively participated in the programme.
